“Pens in One Hand, Trowels in the Other”
The organising committee of the Sixth Postgraduate Conference in Conflict Archaeology are delighted to announce that we can now offer a number of funding opportunities to those hoping to present or attend the conference in October. A sum of £1000 has been divided between two awards dedicated to the memory of Scottish sailors and airmen who served in the Second World War. Read below to find out more about the funds and how to apply:
The Hugh H. Mooney Memorial Travel Award
This travel award has been set up in memory of Flight Sergeant Hugh Harvey Mooney R.A.A.F. (1913-1943). It was made possible by the kind donation of funds by H. Mooney’s surviving relatives. The award is intended to assist five applicants with the costs of attending the conference for the purposes of presenting on a conflict-related topic.

The George D. Pope Memorial Travel Award
The George David Pope Memorial Travel Award has been set up by the kind donation of funds by his daughter and granddaughter, both alumni of the University of Glasgow. George was born in Campbeltown in 1924 and served for 26 years in the Royal Navy. The award provides funds for students to travel to Glasgow to attend the conference in October 2019.
Information about eligibility and applications for the George Pope Award will be released in the coming months.
